VNA Foundation

About VNA

VNA attempts to strike a balance between proactive and reactive grantmaking. Although we sometimes request proposals or initiate grants based on our knowledge of the health-related needs and developments within the communities we serve, often there is no replacement for the expertise of those on the "front lines"-our grantee partners.

So, we always welcome unsolicited inquiries and proposal ideas as well. And we approve and disburse grants at least four times per year, which we hope allows us to be responsive to the sometimes pressing needs of the underserved populations served by our grantees.

Public Health Nursing in Action

We are excited to share with you this video prepared by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (www.rwjf.org) and featuring the Kane Kares Nurse-Family Partnership. Kane Kares links nurses from the Kane County Health Department with first-time teenage mothers, helping them through pregnancy and early childhood to promote bonding and provide education on best health practices and parenting.

As an early supporter of Kane Kares, VNA feels especially proud of this nurse-run program, and provided it not only with grant funding but also acknowledged program leadership with our Super Star in Community Nursing designation. Perhaps more importantly, however, VNA is proud to be associated with a program that offers tangible evidence of the value and sustained impact of the public health nursing model—an impact that has been shown to improve the health and welfare of teens and their babies at what is, for most, a time of great personal challenge.
